“Insect
study Gusovius” in our own garden
The
agitation against non-native plants, especially bamboo, provided the impetus
for an insect study. Over a period of more than six years, I, Sven
Gusovius, observed the insects together with my twin brother Eric Gusovius,
mainly in our own bamboo garden.
Hundreds
of thousands of images were taken in an area of no more than 600 m2. The
insects were usually observed and photographed/filmed several times a day. The
insect population was recorded across all seasons.
In
addition to bamboo, plants such as thuja, cherry laurel, forsythia, hydrangea
and other non-native flowering plants were also studied.
The
"Gusovius Insect Study" clearly shows that non-native plants are not
life unworthy of life, but rather hotspots of biodiversity.
The
"Gusovius Insect Study" provides crucial clues to the main cause of
insect mortality. The observations made are more than worrying.
This is
followed by a comparison of the study results with the widespread hatred and
the associated botanical xenophobia.
